Pigeons . . . for pie?

When I looked out my back window this morning, I saw a pair, a couple, a brace, of pigeons sitting on the fence.  Innocently looking around, taking in a coolish but sunny morning, thinking about plans for the day.  Or perhaps, as I am wont to surmise, thinking about nothing because their brains are too small.  But they certainly are plump.

Perhaps, if one were inclined to shoot and eat them, perfect for a pigeon pie.

Which introduces British chef Simon Goodman.

Well, I'm sorry.  Not to my taste.  But it's up to you.  At least you now know how to do it.

  1. I think they're married. Notice how they aren't looking at each other?

I'll pass on the pie :)

  3. No thanks Jane. But my friend, Orion (the hunter) e-mailed that my birds aren't pigeons . . they're mourning doves. He may be right.

  4. i have had morning doves nesting above my bedroom...and trust me, i would have easily strangled them and eaten them...noisy little bastards...saw several today but they were harmlessly poking around the yard

  5. Godsey - I know whereof you speak. We had to stuff an alcove with garbage bags to keep them from roosting there.

  6. I have several of these mourning doves in my yard along with some turtle doves. I don't mind them and kind of like the cooing. I don't get any real pigeons, which is fine with me. I would have to be pretty hungry before I would eat one.
