BEER BREAD

I made a loaf of bread this afternoon.  It's a quick bread called Beer Bread.

Fresh from the oven, aromatic and still hot.

Someone once said something like "what's not to like?  It's bread and it's beer."

This loaf was made with a bottle of Dos Equis Amber.  ("I don't drink beer often but when I do . . . .")

  1. Well, you realize we need the recipe? Looks delicious. I could get my granddaughter who is living with me now, to make it for us.

  3. Whisk together a cup of whole wheat flour, a cup of all purpose flour, 1/2 cup of rolled oats, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add 1-1/2 cups beer, light or dark but cold or at room temperature, not flat. Fold in until dry ingredients are wet. Pour into an 8-1/2 by 6-1/2 inch greased baking pan and put in a preheated 400 degree F. oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the loaf comes out clean.

    2. Does it taste more of beer or of bread? Anyway it looks absolutely delicious. Too bad you can't send a slice via the ethernet! Maybe one day?

    3. I've only had one slice and I didn't notice a beer flavor at all, Natalie. I'm going to try one toasted this morning.

  6. I always think good bread tastes a bit beery, but that's the yeast; this is soda bread, which I love, so I imagine you get the best of both with this. It looks delicious, I'd like to try it.

  10. Yum! I have some beer bread mix (from Tastefully Simple) & there's a bottle of beer in the fridge just waiting for me to make it. I've made it with soda too - makes a sweeter tasting bread.

    2. Yes - and I've used Mountain Dew and Sprite before - and I think I did it with an orange drink of some kind too :)
