TURNAROUND

This is kind of how we feel right now.

We have given notice to our landlord that we will be leaving by January 31st, at the latest.

Once again we are looking for a place to live, preferably in Prescott, where the BRD lives, or nearby Prescott Valley, where we lived for 17 years before moving to Phoenix in March.

"Why?", you're probably wondering.

The basic reason was a severe reduction in our income that we hadn't seen coming.

But there was the heat, also.  We had lived in Phoenix for nearly 15 years before and thought we could handle it.  But it was severe and brutal and we didn't handle it very well.

So we moved to Phoenix in time for the summer heat.  Now we're moving back north in time for the winter cold.  Are we crazy or not?

Moving is a joyless task and, frankly, we're getting too old for this. So hopefully this will be our last move.

Hmmm, isn't that what we said when we moved to Phoenix 8-1/2 months ago?

We've enjoyed Phoenix for the most part.  The art museum, the Musical Instrument Museum, the concerts, the restaurants.  But we'll still only be about 80 miles away so we can visit.

Now...just where did I put that Powerball ticket?

  2. This does come as a surprise because your new place looked so nice. But weather does become an issue as we age and I'm already starting to fantasize about moving to a sunnier, not necessarily warmer, climate. Take care.

  3. Wow! This is the shocker blog. You guys seemed to be enjoying Phoenix; getting together with old TV co-workers, going to events. Probably the steady readers of your blog are trying to read betrween the lines on this one.

    2. Sounds good. Are you familar with Manzanita Village in Prescott? It is a co-housing project near downtown. Reviews are on the internet.

  4. Hope you find the right place. We kind of know what you are going through... Making this kind of decisions is hard, most of the time costly and we have to make the best of the ones we take. Not always easy. Good luck.

  5. You've had a great extended vacation there in the sun. PV and PV Valley are also great and not so bloody hot. Sorry about the disruption but as the Catalyst you know that you always land on your feet. Good luck my friend.

  6. Bruce, You'll find the right place. This move should be easier after cleaning out the stuff from the precious move.

  7. I feel your pain. I'd rather take a beating than move. But sometimes you just do what you have to do and don't look back. I've never been to Prescott, but your pictures looked appealing. I'm sure there are many things to like about Phoenix, but to me, the oppressive heat trumps all that. Hope things go well for you and SWMBO.

  8. Oh gosh! I'm so sorry to hear that. But life is good in Prescott and maybe I'll see you up there since my family has a summer place there that I try and enjoy quite often.

  9. Getting too old for this is a good moniker for moving for any reason. Hopefully something reasonable will be found and the cats can get settled for good. Good Luck in your search.

  10. I must say, I wondered about how you could stand the heat down in the valley. I lived there for eight years and did OK but now that I am older, it really gets to me. I am glad you will be back in our area because I missed seeing all the things that you found to show us. I'm also glad you have spilled the beans, so to speak. I was wondering what that cryptic comment that you left on one of my posts might mean. I don't envy the moving though.

  11. I don't really feel qualified to comment on moving house in the United States. But I wish you good fortune and an untraumatic move.

  12. Greetings from Minneapolis, where concepts like "Phoenix" are warm, sunny fables.

At least in December they are...

  13. Ugh hate moving. I've probably got two more in my future - out of this big house - into a smaller house - then into the big house --oops three! xoxox
