  1. My town is the scene of excess on this day, my youngest describes it as "Low-rent Mardi Gras, with likely snow falling." And with my last name, I don't need to wear no stinkin' green, either.
However, I do have a weakness for corned beef. For years I did the standard simmer on stovetop for hours, then I tried a slow-baking in a plastic bag. The flavor is more intense, and after 5 hours in a 250 degree over, it almost falls apart.
The oldest daughter, a repressed serial killer, cooks hers in Guiness, it's pretty good too.

    1. Ours came in a shrink sealed bag, already cooked. Only had to heat it up. But then I don't think either one of us is Irish.

  2. I guess I wouldn't make a good Irishman because I can't stand beer and drink very little. Do you know the old Irish saying: "God invented beer so the Irish wouldn't rule the world."

    1. I don't think I had heard that. I generally don't like American beer except for some of the craft ales and porters.

  3. I'm not big on cornred beef and cabbage, but the Germans make some good beer and I like a Guiness now and again. I visited fheir brewery in Dublin some years back.

    1. Mexico has a number of very good beers. I learned while living there that the industry was started by German immigrants. I can drink a Guiness if there's nothing else but it's generally a little too dark for me.

  4. This is a day to remember the red haired girls from the Catholic school and a day to forget that most of their fathers were cops.

  6. "Conned" beef has been in the slow cooker since 8 this morning. Potatoes are boiled, the cabbage is limp. The whisky is inside me and my Scotch-Irish blood coursing through my veins as I listen to Van Morrison and the Chieftains. My wife is English, so what can you what you will say of the mixing. We do miss Boston on this day...

  7. Oh, yum.

For the first time in years, I did NOT have a traditional dinner for St. Paddy's Day. And now I regret that decision.

Maybe there'll be a discount on all the unsold corned beef and I can have it this weekend. :-)
