HOT AND HOTTER

The Weather Gods tell us it will get to 106 degrees Fahrenheit here today.

It's already 93 at 9:30 in the morning.

Phoenix, about 90 miles away, is supposed to hit 115.

So what does my dear, dear friend Tom do?

He posts pictures of the fog they've been enjoying over on the Pacific Coast!

Rub it in, Tommy!

Well we have a way to beat the heat here too.

Take that, buddy boy.

And this, too.

You can keep your fog.

I'm feeling a lot cooler now.

  1. IN THE NEWS.

Four people are dead in Arizona amid a dangerous heat wave that's extending to several Southwest states.

Two hikers died Sunday in Pima County, Arizona, from heat-related illnesses, the Pima County Sheriff's Office said. A 28-year-old trainer died from heat exhaustion Sunday after mountain biking at the Phoenix Mountain Preserve, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. A man died of heat exposure after hiking the Superstition Mountains on Saturday, the Pinal County Sheriff said.

Temperature records were shattered Sunday in dozens of cities in New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California.

Yuma, Arizona, hit 120 degrees; Phoenix hit 118 degrees; Palm Springs, California, reached 118 degrees; and Burbank, California, reached 109 degrees.

Previous records were hit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, 103 degrees, and North Las Vegas, 109 degrees.

Monday is expected to be the hottest day of the week, with temperatures in some areas topping 120 degrees. Utah, Nevada, California and Arizona are facing excessive heat warnings and advisories.

  2. We're supposed to hit 84 here Thursday, it's exactly 70 on my back porch at 1pm, this morning it was 39. Due to our altitude and being right in the middle of the Rockies, we'll get a temp differential of 40 degrees in the summer. We have few nights it doesn't dip well into the 40's.
Sorry about your heat wave, you should maybe summer up here where it's livable.

    cheers,
    Mike

    1. After several decades in Arizona, I'm used to it. And it doesn't last long. Rain expected later in the week.

  3. As much as I want to use the red yarn for my temperature blanket, I'm trying to not wish for hot weather TOO soon. You can have it for now.

  4. Too torrid there for us. We'll continue to enjoy that cool mist. We are expecting more this evening. Keep your feathered friends cool

  5. I saw on the news that Arizona was bracing for record heat. Not too bad here in Portland. Keep cool.

  6. Wow! I guess you can save on utility costs by frying your breakfast on the sidewalk.

It's been mid-90s here for over a week. We're headed to Oklahoma tomorrow, which is like going from the frying pan into the fire. They're forecast to hit 99 for the next several days, according to my weather source.

  8. You just need to go play in the bird bath.

I read about the weather out west there. Some young and experienced hikers died of the heat.

Here in Houston it's hot, but we don't break 100 very often. Even in our mid-90's heat, though, we;ve had a couple kids die in cars and my a/c seems like it's giving up.

I wish you the best getting through this week!

    1. My recording thermomemter says it got to 106.7 degrees on our rear patio today. But we don't have that Houston humidity. I couldn't stand that.

And, yes, there are always some idiots who think they can hike in 120 degrees.

  9. I heard on the news this morning that it made it to 105 up your way yesterday. I never would have imagined. Down here it's blistering. I'm getting a lot of use out of my Apple TV and Netflix subscription.

  10. I suspect the bird bath is more like a hot tub, but if it makes you feel better.

Hit 100˚F here yesterday, not quite as hot the rest of the week. Helps to have a better roof, with better venting, this year. And we do have AC, blessed be.
