I took a header in my garage this morning.
Cleaning out the cat pan and then trying to add some litter, something about the sand pouring and the sunlight blazing through the window caused a dizziness that found me suddenly falling backwards onto a concrete floor.
Quickly taking stock, I determined that nothing was apparently broken though I did have some surface pain on my left elbow and my left hip, where I landed.
It's the second time this has happened.
The first time I managed to land in a soft recliner that's temporarily stored there.
This time not so lucky.
In my younger days I'd have just jumped up and gone on about my business but as I am now in the second half of my octogenaria that doesn't seem to occur anymore.
Judy was in the kitchen and heard the noise when I dropped the litter bucket and then silence so she came out to see if I had damaged myself.
Now she's even older than I am and more arthritic (though I seem to be catching up) but between her hoisting and me grabbing onto our car seat I managed to get to my feet.
At my age, I can't afford to have any more of these falls and potentially breaking some major part of my body.
Judy is known whimsically on this blog as SWMBO, or She Who Must Be Obeyed, and she is good at lecturing me.
So we agreed on a new method for taking care of the cat pan and more use of a cane I normally carry in the car.
All of which made this cartoon I received this morning from one my Humor Elves even more pertinent to the season.

glad to hear it wasn't worse! Sun and sand are made for the ocean NOT the garage
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't be more right, old pal.
DeleteCute cartoon. I am glad you could stand up and walk away. Falling is a danger at our age for sure.
ReplyDeleteMore like "crawl up" but I was able to walk away. Thanks.
DeleteGlad you are still in one slightly battered piece
ReplyDeleteHonestly? Me too.
DeleteThat sucks! Yes, it’s annoying we have to be so much more careful nowadays. That cartoon made me laugh — too appropriate.
ReplyDeleteOdd that it came in today.
DeleteI hear ya! I've had a couple of falls on concrete this year. Right down to the ground so fast. It's pretty jarring to these old bodies even if we don't break anything. You dodged a bullet my friend!
ReplyDeleteYou're much younger than I but still, be careful.
DeleteSorry to hear about the fall. They're so sudden, too. Yes, please use a different approach from now on.
ReplyDeleteYes ma'am.
DeleteThanks for sharing this Bruce. I am so glad that you appear to have survived the fall with no lasting injury but it could have easily been different. Look after yourself mate - we do not want you falling over again!
ReplyDeleteNor again and again. Thanks Neil.
DeleteYikes! Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteI'll do my best.
DeleteYou need to resist this urge to turn your delightful humor into the slapstick kind of falling on the ground while dealing with cat litter. No more falls! Using a cane is a good idea or doing the litter in a seated position somehow?
ReplyDeleteYes, SWMBO has suggested (ORDERED) a seated position. And other things. : )
DeleteI'm glad you weren't seriously hurt by your fall. Do you have an issue with low blood pressure, or fluctuating blood pressure?
ReplyDeleteMine's high but controlled.
DeleteOh boy. That had to hurt. It's good to know you have a capable and I hope bossy wife who will make sure you take more care. Although, I know it is so hard to be continuously watchful and thinking about what you're doing when you are just doing ordinary things.
ReplyDeleteYes, yes and yes.
DeleteI had my own fall just last week, absolutely no reason for it,but suddenly I was down and my head bounced off the footpath. (bled like Niagara falls) I decided it is time to walk a little more slowly now.
ReplyDeletePlease take care, River.
DeleteSuch a relief that you're okay! I bet the cat is not even grateful, and has no sympathy. At least from my experience with cats.
ReplyDeleteShe apparently slept through it. Typical.
DeleteFalling backwards onto a concrete floor is no joke. Watch your step and maybe wear one of those inflatable suits so you'll bounce.
ReplyDeleteNow there's an idea! 😄
DeleteThat's scary! I'm glad you're okay.
ReplyDeleteYes it is. Thanks.
DeleteSteady, old chap! All this cavorting at your age? tch! tch! Glad to hear the outcome isn't serious and that nothing needs mending.
ReplyDeleteCavorting: ha! Yup, I'll live.
DeleteOh dear. I hope you are not bruised.
ReplyDeleteBruised, yes, but not broken.
DeleteAlways be careful.
ReplyDeleteTrying, more and more.
DeleteI know this feeling. Last month I feel four times. WTF. I'm glad nothing was broken but it's scary I imagine, not to mention frustrating.
ReplyDeleteWow! Maybe slow down a bit.
DeleteThanks goodness you didn't break anything! Falling is one of my biggest fears. Please take care!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is scarier as we age. Thanks.
DeleteFalling is definitely no fun at all. It's really good that you didn't break anything. We really have to be so careful these days in our aging bodies. Take care there, Catalyst. (NewRobin13)
ReplyDeleteYes we do. Thanks, Robin.
