I've had some form or another of a beard for most of the past 55 years.
It's usually a goatee.
But sometimes a full beard.
This year I stopped shaving a couple of months ago and eventually grew a Santa-type bush on my face.
Yesterday it looked like this:
Today, our daughter came over for her somewhat delayed annual Christmas visit and exchange of goodies.
I told her I was going to shave it off after she left.
"No, no," both she and my wife exclaimed.
"Oh, not all of it," I explained, "just back to my traditional goatee."
My wife was relieved as she's seen me barefaced a couple of times over the years and prefers my mug partially covered.
The daughter said she'd always liked my beards, whatever they were.
Anyway, once she departed, I got busy with my beard trimmer.
Here is the result.
Wife gave her approval, saying she thought I looked younger with only a goatee.
I'm not sure how one can ever look younger when he's pushing 86 but I'll take it.
The only thing I have a problem with is that back in time, my beard used to be reddish brown.
I wonder where all that white hair came from.

I like the trimmed version of your beard. I get what you mean about loss of that youthful color. Mine was a dark reddish blonde (the Norwegian in me) when I was younger and it is long gone. Still blonde but so much lighter. Fie on Mother Nature pulling that trick.
ReplyDeleteMother Nature apparently has a sense of humor.

ReplyDelete"I wonder where all that white hair came from..." Possibly from a polar bear's ass?
😲
DeleteYou have fun with various beards. I've had many beards but now my facial hair is very sparce.
ReplyDeleteSo long as you keep the hair on top of your head!
DeleteHave you ever thought of growing it like ZZ Top?
ReplyDeleteThat's where I was aiming before Christmas. But it was looking more like David Letterman.
DeleteSee what happens when you smoke cigarettes?
ReplyDeleteOMG! But Boud, I stopped that evil habit in 1992.
DeleteMu husband grew a partial beard to save shaving his sensitive skin. I asked why he was shaving at all. So, he wears a full but short beard now. It has not yet turned white; at least not much of it yet. It's still mostly gray. But he's only 78 so I suspect it will turn full white if he reaches 86.
ReplyDeleteLinda Sand
You mean "...when he reaches 86"!
DeleteYou're a good-lookin Dude, either way! Lori
ReplyDeleteAwwww. ❤
DeleteBoth beards look good. Probably the reddish brown faded from all the sunshine you are exposed to 😂
ReplyDeleteGosh, y'think?
DeleteI really like the trimmed one!
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too.
DeleteI find beards very prickly.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I always shave mine off ...
🤣
DeleteWhite hair comes from experience, living well, the grand adventures.

DeleteYou look great in all of the photos. Short beard, long beard... either way you're looking good! (NewRobin13)

DeleteAll you need is a red suit, just saying. ;) I like the beards, both of them. My late husband never wore a beard, but the last two guys I've dated have had white/gray beards. It looks like you've had a beard for a long time!
ReplyDeleteFor decades. Shaved it off when I came to Arizona, figuring it was a Barry Goldwater state. The guy I replaced had a full beard. Then when we were returning from Mexico I shaved it again. Looked in the mirror and saw my father. Immediately began regrowing it. Now, Judy won't let me shave it off. Maybe the mortician will.
DeleteLooks good, Bruce!

DeleteI love the photo with your reddish brown beard, smiling with the cigarette. A moment frozen in time. Bet there's a story behind that one, too.
ReplyDeleteThere may have been but it's lost in the sands of time now. I remarked to Judy, he looks devilish in that photo.
DeleteMy husband had beards and mustaches in various lengths over the years. I always thought it was great that guys could switch it up like women do with our hair. Yours is great!
ReplyDeleteAha! Someone new has joined our merry clique. Welcome and come back again. Oh, yeah, and my beard thanks you for trhe compliment.
DeleteI am not a fan of beards at all, but my husband grew one this year...or did he start it before that? Can't remember. I think his is an act of defiance, because he knows I hate it! He just got tired of shaving, i think. At least he has been keeping it pretty well trimmed.
