ECLECTICITY

My remaining LP collection.

Right now I'm listening to the disc from that orange album cover on top - the 1959 Playboy Jazz All-Stars with selected performances from that year's first festival.  As I'm typing this the great Coleman Hawkins is riffing his way through "Body and Soul".  Sounds as good now as it did back in '59 when I was a sophomore in college.

    1. Many have gone away but I still have the best ones, from jazz to classical to rock to folk.

  2. We have some albums - but nothing to play them on. I remember listening to my mom's Peggy Lee album (a live one of a performance at some lounge) over and over :)

    1. I bought a turntable that hooks to my computer. Ergo the sound isn't great but at least it works.

  3. My collection of records vanished in one of our many moves but I doubt my taste in music was as sophisticated as yours.

    1. To each his own, as the saying goes, Stephen, none of us more sophisticated than the other.

  4. Mine are long gone. So is the player. Hated to loose them but we ran out of room for all our stuff.

The produce store with the cows on the roof is on Gurley Street next to that A frame that used to be Berry's Pies but is now some kind of title loan place. I think they used to sell used cars at this place.

    1. I need something to store the records in. Right now they're just sitting on the floor.

  5. Good for you for keeping vinyl. Most of mine was given away but some of the heart and soul was kept by my youngest who understands the media, loved the music and realized what a collection of gold it was.

Of course I have to go to her apartment to hear some of my old wax.

    1. Sometimes the younger ones appreciate it even more than we do.

  6. Just be sure not to keep any of them in your garage... we did that once and all our lps were kind of bent/half melted!

    1. I kept bunches of books and records in a basement once and they became all molded.

  7. Like you, I still have a number of vinyl albums, but not all I once had. I still kick myself when I think of the ones that got away.
