WARMING UP

The heat is on!

It might be a good day to do your outdoor gardening early or late.

At least here in Arizona.

At 9 a.m. today it's already 84 degrees F.

That's almost 29 C, according to the Google Gods.

The forecast high for today ranges from 97 to 100, depending on which site you use.

Down the hill, in Phoenix, the temperature has already hit the triple figures in the last few days and today it's expected to reach about 115.

And we still have July and August to go!

But long-time Arizonans, like yours truly, know to just take it in stride.

Unlike that guy above, I stay inside an air conditioned house during the middle of the day.

And hydrate, which means drink a lot of water.

The calendar says it isn't here yet but Happy Summer, everybody!

Uh oh. For someone used to our more frigid climate, that sounds quite daunting!

Just when we can't bear it one more day, monsoon begins and cools it all down. I water everything early morning to give all the plants a chance to make it through the day. Have the drip system running 3 times a week for 45 minutes each time. Good time to do indoor projects!

We lived in Victorville CA for 7 years, 1978-1985. Our children were young then, and planning for the heat of the day was necessary!! I played closing the drapes on the east and then later on the west. 112 deg. was pretty much the summer. We went for walks in early evening, when the temp. plummeted to 94. Almost wore jackets.

JayCee, I grew up in North Dakota, fairly close to Canada. Now THAT climate was daunting. I was very happy to leave the snow, ice and cold behind!

I know, I water plants and fill the birdbath in the early morning, too. And I don't mind my indoor life at all!

Oh yes, fifteen years living in Phoenix meant the same thing to us. We moved back there in 2013 and only lasted one summer and came back to the (relatively) high country.

Here in NJ it's rainy and in the 60s. Back to a jacket! The plants love it. The people not so much.

No one is ever happy with the weather!

I don't do well in hot weather but that's an attitude thing.

Yikes. We are supposed to reach the 80s here, for the first time in a couple weeks. I cannot imagine being in the 90s at 9 am.

It's already summer. The meteorologists have it right, June, July, and August. About 90 here, already way too hot for me.

I like that temperature, not too hot, but reasonably comfortable. Hydration is the key. And sunscreen.

There was a heat advisory in Alaska, the first ever, 90 f in Fairbanks. Stay cool, just like we were in the 70's.

Thank goodness for air conditioning, right!?

84 is nice. The top temps, not so nice. I'm not crazy about air conditioning or staying inside but I can understand the need for it in that heat!

I remember the days before A/C so I know how lucky we are to have it!

The fellow in the picture looks a lot like you. Excessive heat is something you have to shelter from. Very rare in an English summer. I prefer warm to hot.

Right, indeed, Steve.

Truth be told, so do I, YP.

But it's a dry heat...

I spent one long summer in Phoenix many years ago. It was the hottest weather I had ever felt. I could never do that again. (NewRobin13)

I don't think i could handle that. When it gets over 85 I am not happy.
