AND NOW. . .

. . . for something completely different.  I have my blogger friend, Tess, to thank for this.  She posted it on her Facebook page and after listening to it twice I had to share it with y'all.  By the way, that "y'all" is proper because the singer is a Texas girl named Janis Joplin.  This recording, with some studio crosstalk, is her first ever studio recording of "Me and Bobbie McGee".  Enjoy.

  2. Wow! Great memories. I was a big Janis Joplin / Big Brother fan "back in the day". Isn't it interesting how as an unknown back in Port Arthur, Tx she was frowned upon as one of those dirty hippie types, but once she made it big they put her name on a big "Welcome to Port Arthur, home of...." sign?

Also of interest, at a recent European car show Mercedes Benz opened their presentation with Janis' song, "Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz...." :)

  3. There's a gal in a local band here that does a dead-on impersonation of Janis singing the Mercedes-Benz song.

  4. I'm another big fan of Janis. They wouldn't allow the video to run.

  5. Gom's favourite! He loved her gravelly voice and her wildness.
