VETERANS' DAY - 11/11/11

It's a day to remember all of the young men and women, many of them now older, who have served their country in the Armed Forces.  I had two uncles who were in World War Two.  One came home, one didn't.  In more recent times, a veteran in our family is our grandson Rusty, known as Sergeant Russell Milburn II, shown here with his fiancee, Kayla.

After several hitches in the Army and tours of duty in Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan, the Sarge has decided to opt out of future service.  He may be a full-time civilian now but we thank him for his service.

To him and all the others - you done good.

  1. Excellent post, sir. My daughter and wife were both Navy vets, and I'm extremely proud of both. Truth is, we can never thank our veterans enough, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. ;)

  5. Oh, yes, I have posted about him before. It's just that the older I get, the faster I seem to get older!

  6. Thanks, Sarge...enjoy civilian life! I chose not to wear the uniform; Sarge and others served to protect my freedom to do so. They are always in my thoughts. Excellent post, Bruce.

  7. Thank you, prof. I, like you, chose not to go. Or, it just happened that I was lucky but I'm proud of my grandson for what he's done but damned glad he's finally out of it for good.
