Hey, I know it is not you; it is Hunter S. Tompson.
Local reporter Budge Ruffner talked the Prescott Courier into sending him to the 1964 Republican Convention in San Francisco. A man with close ties to Prescott was getting nominated for President, Barry Goldwater. They shared the hotel room.
In order for it to HST there would have to be a 12" long holder for the cigarette. Man, can you imagine if we'd had Stassen as a prez instead of Raygun?? I'd have voted for hiim over Mondale. He might just have won, considering Mondale.
Still got that hat?
ReplyDeleteI don't. Have no idea what happened to it. It was a Stetson I bought on the first night in Dallas.
DeleteYou look pretty darn cool in that white hat.

So you spent a week rubbing shoulders with politicians? Did you have to go back to your hotel and decontaminate every evening? :)
ReplyDeleteS
Actually I spent several decades with politicians. Most of them weren't so bad.
DeleteGreat shot of you at work. I remember those convention weeks! Good thing we were younger then.
ReplyDeleteThat guy behind you looks kind of like a young Kent Dana ??
ReplyDeleteThat IS Kent Dana.
DeleteThis is one of my all-time favorite photos - it says everything about the people and the time. Classic.
