THROWBACK THURSDAY

This photo of me was taken around 1958 or '59 at Jamestown College (now the University of Jamestown) in North Dakota.  So why, you might wonder, am I so full of glee and not at my desk poring over my lessons?

Because this was a time of crazy pranks, like seeing how many adults (!?) could cram themselves into a Volkswagen Beetle and still make it move.

My memory may be foggy all these years later but I believe our figure was 16.  Truly a clown carload.  (Check out those snazzy argyle socks.)

Hilarious photo. You probably had the best seat in the house-better than those poor guys inside the car! You know argyles have made a come back?

I'm just waiting for Nehru jackets.

Glad to see you taking your education seriously. Great picture and those glasses are back in fashion.

Wow! First the argyles, now the glasses. Can Nehru jackets be far behind?

You guys were sitting on the gas tank, considering how many people smoked in those days, you had a shot at how many people could die in one car fire. And hipsters were those glasses today, the butch haircut, no so much.

The driver bears a more than striking resemblence to Buddy Holly.

Actually the driver (and owner of the car) is the guy in front of him with his glasses pushed up to his forehead. But, yes, the other guy is singing "Peggy Sue".

Yeah, my flat top looked like it got flattened.

Like Avis, we tried harder.

Such happy memories!
It's part of college education of course only not mentioned in any study book.

It makes me think of the time we piled 22 people into one guy's convertible and drove it across the bridge crossing the Mississippi River singing and laughing all the way. Crazy kids!
