MUSIC, MAESTRO, PLEASE

Here's someone I discovered recently, Pokey LaFarge of St. Louis, Missouri.

I like his whimsical style as displayed in this video from his new album "Something in the Water".

As of this year, his band is known as Pokey LaFarge since he expanded it to six players.

Previously it was just three and was known as the South City Three.

I'm a fan of a good harp (harmonica) player and Ryan Koenig, who dominates the next video, is a master.

Ladies and Gentlement, the La La Blues.

Enjoy your weekend, music fans.

  1. Is there a Pokey Lafarge cult developing? A few of these oddball groups make a terrific living playing small and mid sized venues and pack them every time.

  3. If you check Wikipedia you'll find that he has a handful of albums out and has toured all over the world, won a couple of awards and appeared on the Letterman show and Prairie Home Companion a couple of times. But he'd been under my radar until recently.

  4. Just fabulous! The clothes, the props, the hair just add to the music. Sort of reminds me of one of my favorite music movies "Begin Again".

    1. PS--His sound "approaches" a kind of Cajun sound, or seems to have that Mississippi River influence.

    2. Well, based in St. Louis he was influenced by the Mississippi, as is noted in his Wikipedia page.

  6. Small world. Pokey LaFarge was the entertainment at Missouri Scholars Academy on teacher recognition night, when my son attended during the summer of 2014.
