RECURRING ROBINS

The robins I was surprised to find in my birth bath about a week ago are still hanging around, it seems.

As I noted then I was a bit surprised to see them at this time of year.

But here's proof, in a couple of photos I shot just this morning.

As you can see he loves the water.

A bit later, this forlorn looking creature was perched on the side of the bath for a very long time.

The puffy bird would occasionally take a sip of the water but didn't get in for a bath like the other one did.

And I couldn't tell if it was a female or immature robin or some other type of bird.

It doesn't have the streamlined but stocky image of the robin though so I'm stumped.

If there are any budding ornithologists among you Gentle Readers with more wisdom than I, let me know what you think.

  1. A young cardinal?

Those birds are afraid to fly too far south, they may not be allowed back in come spring.

  2. No idea. I am used to seeing the ducks here that stay over the winter in the water, regardless of how cold the water is.

  3. I know very little about birds but I hope someone can help you out here.

  4. My friend, Phil, who comments on Facebook opines that this may be a Western Wood-Peewee. After looking at pictures of that bird I think he may be right.

  5. That largest one might have been in my yard this summer, like anything with a brain it left for the south in October.

  6. I'd like to know why the cat on the far left of your heading doesn't move. Concentrating on the robins too hard perhaps?

  7. I keep thinking that the water must have been a bit chilly for bathing. But, I guess the birds are used to that.

  8. It rather looks like a fluffy baby Robin...When we had a bird bath we noticed, also, that some birds just jumped in feet first while others were more reticent.
