THE CATS WHO RULE US

Some of you Gentle Readers may recall my telling you about our little cat, Muggles, and her apparently final sickness awhile back.

If you need a memory jog you can find it here.

She was seeming to be on a glide path to the Great Beyond before she began once again to eat and drink tiny amounts.

Well.

Never let a cat fool you.

In the past couple of months she has been eating like a horse, drinking lots of water and putting on the weight she had lost.

Her cough has nearly disappeared and she seems back to her old self, most of the time.

Today her big bully brother Blackwell came up to cower her into leaving "her spot" on the bed and got a smack in the face for his trouble.

I didn't witness it but SWMBO said he backed off with a stunned look on his face.

(Actually, I don't know how a cat can have a stunned look on his face but I do not contest SWMBO's telling of the story.)

So anyway, here is Muggles today, up on the cat perch studying things outside the window.

She is still "junior sized" but she's always been that way.

And here (in Muggles' spot on the bed) is her big bully brother Blackwell.

Our cats.

We love 'em but the title of this post says it all.

  1. It would seem that Muggles hasn't gone through all of her eight lives yet.

  3. Cats...my oldest girl got a cat during her freshman year in college, Beau got kicked out of the dorm and moved in with me. I was living in a new, but dumpy apartment complex, a little two bedroom with a 4x6 "deck. It took me awhile but I noticed Beau seldom used his litter box. Then spring came and noticed the smell...Beau had taken to hopping over to the next "deck" to do his business. The apartment next door was the complex' model and the deck was literally "littered." Only cat I've ever been around that would play ball...I'd toss a foam ball and Beau would bring it back.

  4. She looks to be the picture of health. And somewhat regal as well.

  8. Muggles just was not ready to cross Rainbow Bridge. Lucky for all of you; she looks sleek and healthy now. Did you ever check with a vet to solve the mystery of her downturn when she was ill? Very curious.

  9. I'm glad to hear that Muggles is once again her old self. That slap in the face made me laugh. I find that I don't tolerate a lot of things I did when I was younger. I've been known to fire off a little rhetorical slap in the face when deserved.

  10. Eleanor gets that stunned look often, very familiar with it. And the offended look. Blissful. Curious. Yup.
