THE SEASON OF FOOD

Regulars at this blog (Gentle Readers) know that I love food.

I love to read about it.

I love to occasionally try new recipes.

I especially love to eat SWMBO's cooking.

So if you're warming up your kitchens for the holidays, let me show you some throwback pictures from our various kitchens over the years.

Some recipes call for Julia Child's favorite ingredient: but-tah!


The big eating day of the year is Thanksgiving, just down the road a bit and in most homes that means turkey.


Years ago we came to an understanding that roasting a whole turkey is more work than it's worth and turkey breast became our holiday meal.

But not everyone likes turkey (like my wife) so maybe throw tradition to the wind and go with boneless orange pork chops.


Or maybe some grilled fish and asparagus.


Fresh-baked bread is always a treat.


And, of course, veggies are a must no matter how they're part of your meal.



Of course, at Thanksgiving there's only one way to end the meal . . . with PIE!


It might be the traditional pumpkin pie.


Or a Key Lime Pie.


Or you may want to go way out in left field and make a Chocolate Truffle Pie!

Let me tell you, couple a slice of that with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce and you will remember it in your dreams.


I don't know about you but I'm hungry!

Grilled fish looks great! We also have included duck, I've got that one down pretty good. And the pumpkin pie has gone from the menu, replaced by some various winter squash pie, every one of us like them better. Good pictures.

Cook book worthy pics! Sold all my roasting pans at a garage sale years ago. Not a fan of turkey. We usually broil or grill lobster for all the holidays. Pumpkin pie, but made with goat yogurt and chilled. One year, I had my parents for Thanksgiving and I made an apple pie, a mincemeat pie, and a pumpkin pie. My dad was in Pie Heaven and had a hefty slice of each. I'll sent you the photo if it's still on my computer.

You've made my stomach growl. We no longer cook en entire turkey and only roast a breast. I hated waking up the day after Thanksgiving and facing the big dead bird in the fridge.

See now, I maintain that roasting a turkey is about the easiest thing in the world to cook! It's all the 'trimmings' that are so labor-intensive! I mean, pop a turkey in a bag, a little butter rubbed on top, some salt and pepper, voila! But the stuffing, homemade gravy, and all the other stuff; WORK.

We just finised eating so it's OK but it gives me a couple of ideas. Such a choice!

Great food photos! It can actually be difficult to make food look good in pictures -- so bravo to you!

You can get turkeys there? few years back, in Bad Kissingen, we couldn't find any.
