Today is Mardi Gras.
Or Fat Tuesday.
Or Pancake Tuesday.
Or Shrove Tuesday.
Whatever you call it, if you observe these kinds of things, it's a day to pig out because tomorrow the Christian period of Lent begins.
Lent means giving up stuff.
Stuff like chocolate and wine and for one particular friend of mine: cheeseburgers.
I'm going off to the Pie Place to have lunch with a group of friends and former colleagues.
Not as any observation of anything connected with Lent, it just happened to be on this day.
Now my beloved SWMBO doesn't observe this period of "wanting" either but she did prepare a delicious meal the other day that could have been served to the observant today.

It was a delicious bacon-topped pork roast with an orange marmalade glaze.

Well, don't let me stop you.
If you want to "pig out" today, have at it.

We are having pancakes with maple syrup for dinner tonight. And then some chocolate.
I remember Fat Tuesday in Detroit. Lines at bakeries waiting to get a puska.
I just ate two pancakes that I made myself. Mrs Pudding only wanted one. I had mine with treacle (syrup) and single cream. Delicious! Made me wonder why we don't have pancakes more often. I'll be giving up pole dancing and weightlifting for Lent.

Is Lent an all Christians thing or is it just the Catholics who do it? Because I don't know anyone who observes Lent that isn't Catholic.
What time is dinner? I can bring my own fork...
That looks like a yummy pork roast! I didn't have pancakes but I did wear a Mardi Gras robe.

Yes! Pancakes for us to celebrate Shrove Tuesday.
That pork roast looks amazing. We do the same thing with wild turkey. It tends to be dry and the bacon laid across it lends a smokey flavor as well as adding moistness. Never tried the orange glaze, but I am going to bet it woud be wonderful.
No pancakes here.
When the Christian Dominionists take charge they'll have figure what to tell us to eat. They'll probably sell Shrove Tuesday to IHOP.
