HOUSEBOATING

The past has snuck (or is it sneaked?) up on me once again.

You may remember a few weeks ago the photo of that mystery home in Guadalajara that for the longest time I couldn't quite identify.

The same guy who sent me that photo has done it again.

Not with a home but with a much younger me.

Looking somewhat terrified as I tried to pilot a houseboat on Lake Mojave, in northwestern Arizona.

That was back in the day when I was foolishly still smoking, as you may be able to see.

A group of friends had the use of the houseboat for a weekend and good times were had by all.

Even me, after I relinquished the wheel to a more experienced lake negotiator and relaxed with a buddy (actually a Budweiser beer.)

I may have looked a little admonished by the casualness of this showoff lake pilot, steering with his foot.

A sizeable quantity of alcohol was consumed by the boatload of loonies on that weekend.

I'm not sure if that had anything to do with this sweet lady being the best boat captain or not.

Good times in the 1970's when we apparently weren't quite old enough to know any better.

But it was one fun weekend!

It does look like fun! Being on a boat in the sun with beer is great in one's twenties. Now I would just worry about whether there's a bathroom.

Sometimes I am amazed that I am alive today when I remember some of the risky behavior I got up to. Yikes!

Ah... The 1970s. Was it really so long ago? Some things I remember better than yesterday.

For me the days of being young and foolish were long ago. Now I can be old and foolish. I did many dangerous things when young not realizing how dangerous they were, like visiting the desert in Jordan with my friend Carol.
