But the closer you get, the more you see the bark resembles camouflage.

Arizona Sycamores
The part of Arizona where Montezuma's Castle is located appears to have once been covered with water. The Arizona Sycamores grow there, looking as if they have been living underwater.

Beautiful stuff, there, Cat-A. My absolutely most favorite tree of all that grow in AZ. What most people don't realize is that the beautiful trees in Oak Creek canyon are the sycamores, not the oaks!

GJ - But, after all these years, Sycamore Creek Canyon just doesn't have the same ring. And there is a Sycamore Canyon not to far away.
Kitty - Yes, I think the trees could be called "Surprise Trees" as well as Sycamores.
You've convinced me. I'm putting Arizona on my list of places to go.
Of course, I'm still waiting for my ship to come in so that I can afford to travel.
But don't rule that out... remember - I live on an island so that could actually happen!!!

I love Sycamore trees! We lived opposite huge ones on the bank of the Avon River inChristchurch NZ.
