?????

The title of this post could reflect the feelings of Denver Broncos fans. The team took a whuppin' in yesterday's Super Bowl. Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks.  They were definitely the better team.

But here's the real reason for those question marks.  We have a couple of trees in our backyard that we can't identify.

With the help of these three pictures I'm hoping someone can tell me what they are.

I've seen trees like those, but the name slips my mind.

I've had two responses that suggest the magnolia family but SWMBO says she thought those were more tropical.

Magnolia family sounds close.

Check for something in the photinia family. The leaf cluster looks similar, but the trunk doesn't.

Guessing here-Magnolia?

Trees and plants aren't my thing, but it's refreshing to see trees that are green and not covered in snow.

Popular opinion and that of the Google show it is of the magnolia family. Wikipedia says there are hundreds of varieties, from the huge, large-leafed trees of the south to the more modest genus in my yard. At least I hope this isn't one of the larger varieties as it would knock over not only a cement block wall very near to it but also my and my neighbor's houses.

Clip a small branch and take it to a nursery.

I'm almost certain these are camellias - the same genus as the shrub that produces the leaves that are dried for tea. The fine serrations on the leaf edges give it away.
