LOOKIN' AROUND

The photos in this post were all shot yesterday.

In this one toward the mountains it looked like rain.  Or mist.  Or fog.

A little later in the day, looking toward Phoenix.

Clouds were rolling across the sky but not dropping any moisture on my part of town.

Looking toward the northeast, the mountains are nearly obscured in mist or fog.

"What was that sound?  Was it the Hound of the Baskervilles?"

  1. You have great views. With the clouds and fog it looks a bit like a scene from the moor.

  2. Dry weather out west. CA and some other states are in dire straits.

  3. I have a view of Cape Cod from my back yard.

OK, I have a view of A Cape Cod...with a white fence around it.

  4. Bruce, please enlighten and educate me if you will. Am I correct in thinking you live in a desert area? If so, what constitutes 'desert'? It seems not to be nothing but rock, dust and sand. There does appear to be stuff growing in the wild where you are.

    1. Tom, the area we live in is referred to as "high desert". When I moved to Phoenix in 1972 I was surprised at the vegetation. Where are the sand dunes, I wondered. It turns out that there is more rain in the Sonoran Desert than in, say, the Sahara. But it's still only about 6 inches or so a year. We get a little more where I live which is at 5,100 feet elevation, contrasting with about 900 for Phoenix. We also are in the foothills to the Bradshaw Mountains so only a few miles from us the pine trees appear. And to the south a few more miles the Saguaro cacti begin to appear. I hope that helps.
