Shall we have a contest on what it represents and where it is from? Since you lived in Mexico, I would guess it is from there. But it is an unusual piece, especially the feet. Maybe a radio announcer saint?
An Aztec tribute to Garfield the Cat? Maybe Mayan or Olmec.
Nope, not Mexico, not Aztec, not Mayan, not Olmec. It came from one of my neighbors here, bought at his garage sale, and it's a Tiki! Gotta go to the South Seas for those.
He's my new desk guardian.
That will keep the birds out of the rafters.
It does look more Oceanic than Mexican. This looks like a Tiki as opposed to other types of carvings.
Tiki is a Polynesian word (more specifically Maori) and it is literally a personification of primeval man. The figure in your photograph bears little resemblance to any example of tiki that I have ever seen, having lived all of my nearly seventy years in the South Pacific region.
Maybe it's a Trader Vic's tiki, Keith. :)
Such a nice way to protect your home.
A true Cheshire Cat grin!
