THROWBACK THURSDAY

Somewhere back in the distant past . . taking a spin in the Goodyear Blimp.  A very calm, smooth ride.

  1. That sounds like fun! I have always wondered what it looked like inside.
The red door is at the Grand Canyon. (it said that under the picture) The sign said it was the office of the magistrate. I didn't go in.

  2. As long as Bruce Dern (movie reference) wasn't at the helm, that'd be fun.

  3. That throws me back to Tillamook, Oregon, of my youth, and the big blimp bases that were left over from W.W. II.

    1. I never saw the blimps that were over there, but those hangers just east and south of town were huge. Didn't they make a museum out of it all some years ago?

    2. I think there is one that has been kept as a museum. They were huge; I seem to remember someone flying an airplane through one of the hangars.

  4. We had a blimp hanger at nearby Moffett Field when I was growing up. The blimps were long gone but the hanger was cool.

  5. A blimp story - anyone raised in Portland in the 1950s, knew the name of Barney Keep. He was the morning disc jockey on KEX, the only 50,000 watt station in Oregon at the time. He was funny and popular.

I heard a funny story about his funeral. When the preacher got to the part where he said: "Barney has gone to a better place"; the Goodyear Blimp passed by the mortuary's bay window. The family says it was coincidence but knowing Barney's sense of humor it was very suspicious.
