BOOKIN'

This was a scene I encountered a week ago at a familiar location.

The folks at my local library were trying to clean out their overload of books by offering many of them for sale at bargain prices in a used book sale. The books were displayed just outside the front entrance of the library and local bibliophiles were having a great time perusing the collection and searching for good deals.

I had to prowl the piles of written material myself having had a lifelong love of books. Regular readers here may remember that SWMBO and I owned and ran a bookstore called BOOKENDS here for 7 years.

I was tempted numerous times by some of the titles but then I remembered our bookshelves at home with so many volumes waiting to be read.

And then SWMBO, noticing what I was doing, reminded me of the normally closed cabinet with the cookbooks!

By the time I got around to taking this picture, our curious big black cat, Blackwell, had discovered a new niche to be explored. I didn't notice him in there until I was editing the pictures.

Having taken this inventory, I am glad I refrained from buying any more books at the library book sale.

Sort of.

  1. Do you plan on re-reading those paperbacks?

  2. After moving books across state lines too many times, we made a pack to cull the crop and sell or donate all of them except a few design books and golf books. We are active library users. With the ability to put titles in our queue online and then be notified when the book comes in plus do searches from our recliners, it is a much better system for us. Our rule is no books or coffee mugs ever allowed in the house again except on loan.

    1. We, too, use the library as you do. But we couldn't live without books surrounding us. And why the ban on coffee mugs?

    2. Coffee mugs seem to multiply the way books do.

    3. Ohhhh-kayyy. Strange, I've been using the same mug for years. This week I even washed it!

  3. Giving up book collecting is difficult. Every other month I take a box of books to donate to our local library for their "friends" semiannual book sales. Then I buy a dozen or so at each sale. Maintains a semi-equilibrium. Still have about ten full bookcases scattered around the house. Coffee cups are easier, they go in the recycle bin

  4. You might have come across some of my old books at the sale. I donated a ton of them for their sale. But never fear, I still have a ton of them at home too. My house would feel empty without books.

  5. Book sales are trouble. I try to avoid them. As to your coffee mug practice-I understand.

  6. For a minute there, I thought I saw a dinosaur eye peering back at me from a bookshelf.
Were you making a statement with that black cat in the 13th photo?

    1. Ha! I didn't even know it was the 13th photo until you told me. Then I had to go back and count them to see that you were right!
