One of our neighbors has a cat that apparently visits numerous homes in this area.
Matty is an extremely friendly beggar who has found that he will get a small treat from me each day and a small pinch of catnip.
He wolfs down the kitty treats, eats a bit of the catnip and rolls luxuriously in the remainder and then settles in on our couch for a nap.
Yesterday he slept there for hours.
Today just a "cat nap" before taking his leave.
But long enough for me to take his picture.
He and we both appreciate his visits, which have become daily since he learned he can get cat treats here.
My daily cat calendar page today features a beautiful golden kitty and what passes itself off as an Italian proverb: "Happy is the home with at least one cat."
Even if he's just a visitor.

I agree with RedPat.
For the past 12 years, the neighbor across the street's cat, she says it's a 'he', I just call it 'cat', has figured out that, summer or winter, if he comes over and stands up on hind legs he can see in the picture window, and taps with his paw and meows.....that I'll open a small can of tuna and let him in, he eats the tuna, jumps up into a recliner and sleeps till noon, then meows to be let out.
I guess I'll miss him. Maybe.

That's kind of ideal, actually -- you get to enjoy the company of a cat and yet you don't have ultimate responsibility for its care. I imagine it's like having a grandchild!
After our last cat was gone and we decided no more because of a busy street and travel plans we have a half-a-cat that visits from time to time. It is the best arrangement for us.
We have a part-time kitty cat as well. Our neighbor's cat Cleo stops by everyday for long periods of neighborly affection and rolling around on our deck. It's the best way to have a kitty cat when we're not really ready to have one full time.

Our friends had a cat stop by like that and he turned out to be the cat from a local pub, sometimes it just wanted peace and quiet. It ended up living with them permanently (with permission from the publican).
