A SIGN OF SPRING?

The temperature has risen around these parts into the 50's and low 60's for several days now and I just spotted this rascal in my driveway.

He was very still.

He didn't even move as I bent over to photograph him.

I'm not sure whether he's frozen solid or just enjoying the sunshine-heated pavement for awhile.

But when I blew up the photo he looked positively prehistoric.

Behold!  The mighty grasshopper!

If he be here can Spring be far behind?

  1. I think there is a master's thesis, or even a doctoral dissertation, on the subject of optimism about weather and it's relation to latitude and altitude.

  2. Bruce doesn't go outside when I do in the morning and it is 20 degrees. It eventually WARMS UP to 50, but the wind is bitter cold. That grasshopper could be frozen from overnight.

  3. When I saw the grasshopper image my brain went to the 1970s TV show Kung Fu... what a strange leap, since I hardly ever watched that show. "Choose wisely, grasshopper." Yes, move to warmer temps in winter.

  4. I'm guessing he was enjoying the sunshine too much to be disturbed by a man with a camera. It does seem as if spring might finally be coming your way.

  5. Grasshoppers terrify me; they're so quick when they jump. And the tobacco like juices they spew. Ugh.
