Some years ago when I was employed in my final job in a television newsroom, I decided that Friday would be Hat Day.
I began wearing a different hat from my extensive collection all day each Friday and soon others in the newsroom chimed in with their own.
It was silly.
It was fun.
It caused conversation.
It was Friday, the end of the week.
Now I offer up cartoons on Fridays so I can not continue Friday Hat Day.
But I can give you an idea of what it was like and show you how I have had affection for hats my whole entire life.
It started in my youth.
My extreme youth.
My mother made the early costumes.
A majician, complete with cape and top hat
Prince Charming, for some school play
A melancholy conventioneer, on the set of "Hello, Dolly" in Hollywood
A happy hippie, cruising Indiana in his MGB
Weird, that I should don such a hat, but it was hot in Phoenix
But still a formal portrait was taken there, for a Christmas card
And a less formal portrait, for a Halloween party
The Beaner and Timmer with us in Grand Junction
waiting for the train back to Denver
Where we got crazy
Don't laugh at this one
That's a Stetson, bought in Dallas
Celebrating New Year's Eve in Guadalajara
Lovely hats but where is the railroad cap
ReplyDeleteI never owned one of those.
DeleteWow! That's a lot of hats! Where do you store all of your hats? Do you have a special hat rack?
ReplyDeleteI only have half a dozen now and they sit on a shelf in my closet.
DeleteHats off to you!
ReplyDelete😊 Thank you!
DeleteThe many faces (& hats!) of the Catalyst!
ReplyDelete😁😉😎
DeleteWhat a grand history of hats you have worn. It was so much fun to scroll through these photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy to oblige.
DeleteLaughed and laughed! Really enjoyed the hats through the ages, but partial to the Stetson!
ReplyDeleteI think I was too for the appearance. But I enjoyed my white straw hats the most, I think.
DeleteI am pleased to see that they are not baseball caps. Of course, if you do wear them, just ignore me. :)
ReplyDeleteActually, I don't mind others wearing them, but they're not for me.
My wife says the same about me. But I did have one given to me by a Canadian fire captain who was a neighbor once.
DeleteThat's quite an evolution of hat wear, reminds me of a book that chronicled hats worn by ladies in church. Bad Santa is my favorite of the bunch and your starting the tradition of hats on Friday reminded me of Casual Work Day, when us then employees were allowed to wear jeans and t-shirts.
ReplyDeleteThat may have been what inspired me.
DeleteThese are great photos; I'm fascinated with all the hats! I rarely wear them. I have a big head and lots of hair so none of them fit very well and I look atrocious.
ReplyDelete😥
DeleteA man of many hats.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad wore hats all the time and when he moved to long term care as he approached 100 years old he took to wearing them even inside.
🎩
DeleteYou really HAVE had an amazing assortment of hats (and pseudo-identities)! I think I could show off all the hats I've ever worn in about five photos.
ReplyDeleteYes, some of us (you) have led a deprived life. 😄
DeleteI love it!
ReplyDelete❤
DeleteTogether the hats suggest that you have had a happy life in which silliness has played a part. Aren't all Frenchmen "pseudo"?
ReplyDeleteYes and . . . maybe.
DeleteGood hats!
ReplyDeleteMy challenge is finding hats for my big head.
Fun post. You're a man of many hats!
ReplyDeleteBad Santa! Have you seen that movie? Definitely not for kids. You have some great hats! My younger son is a fan of hats.
ReplyDeleteTom LightBreezes....Sensational post...love it!
