RHAPSODY

A favorite piece of music for both Judy and I is the famous Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin.

I stumbled across this recording of it performed by the Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili and the Orchestre National de Lyon with Leonard Slatkin conducting.

Everyone is perfect in this performance of a very difficult but beautiful piece of music.

Do yourselves a favor, just lean back and enjoy this.

  1. Twice, I saw Leonard Slatkin conduct, when he was with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He was a bit younger than he is in this clip.

  2. this was tremendous. I have never seen it performed by an orchestra. The pianist was superb. My Sis-in-law is a concert pianist who had to stop when children came along. She said this is one of the most difficult to play. Gershwin, wow, what you created will thrill people for years to come.

  7. Always a favorite. We have a DVD of an outdoor concert in Germany with Marcus Roberts playing the piano on this piece.

  8. Thanks. It makes me think of New York tenements on a Saturday morning as the city wakes up and the drama and bustle begins all over again.
