Why I believe it's my old pal, the Rufous Sided Towhee, who summers in these parts.
With the mercury in the low 40's it seemed a little early for a bath in that cold water.
But sure enough he spent quite a time there enjoying a vigorous dousing in the birdbath.
I don't know how long he'd been there but I managed to get a couple of pictures before he flew off.
Wow. Have not seen him in my fountain yet. I had a downy woodpecker recently. I still have suet hanging. And of course the dratted doves . . . I think they would make a good pigeon pie.
ReplyDeleteI thought a couple of times I'd heard him recently but this was my first sighting.
DeleteMy apricot tree is starting to bud, our little feathered friends can't wait for the fruit. (bastids)
ReplyDeleteOne of my neighbors has a tiny apricot tree and it's budding too.
DeleteOver here on the central coast it is time for the Mockingbird mating season. It is a nonstop serenade until the Tinder connection happens.
ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in Phoenix (the first time) the mockingbirds in our neighborhood would sing loudly all night long during mating season. As Jager would say "bastids!"
DeleteHow kind of you to provide a bathing facility for him.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to have bird friends stop by. My scrub jay visited for a snack as well. Love the banner of your cat, looks a lot like Moby.
ReplyDeleteA member of the Polar Bear Club no doubt.
ReplyDeleteWho knew birds got so dirty?
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOoh this reminds me - I've got to get my Wordless Wednesday post ready!
