One year ago, August 19th, 2017, I was getting ready to have my Pacemaker/Defibrillator replaced once again.
I got my original pacemaker on Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) in 2007.
A few weeks later it was replaced with a pacemaker/defib.
The battery on that one only lasted for 3 years so the device was replaced in 2010.
That one fared better so the one I got last year was actually my fourth and supposed to last 7 to 10 years.
I'm pleased to report that all went well on the 21st and like John Cameron Swayze (now who remembers him) used to say "it takes a licking but keeps on ticking."
He was actually talking about Timex watches but whatever.
A couple of years ago we were in the monsoon season and I was just trying to figure out how we could harness the power of that thunder and lightning when it came to me.
Five years ago, August 19, 2013, I was obsessed with cat pictures on the Internet when I was stopped to find this:
Finally, I went back 10 years ago and found out that in August of 2008 the nation was in election season and we were wondering who would be the new president in 70 days.
Would it be Arizona's own John McCain?
Or a somewhat newcomer with a strange name, Barack Obama of Illinois?
Guess you know how that turned out.
In this year of 2018, all I can say is thank you to medical science for the Pacemaker.
We thank medical science and the NHS in Scotland for caring for my Pirate
ReplyDeleteTake care x
I'm on my 2nd pacemaker since 2006 and have a question. When I walk between those theft-alert sensors at the doorways of stores --especially at the big box pharmacies-- the alarms sound. After a couple times, the stores' personnel just wave me past. And, I've found that if I hold my hand just right (like I'm saluting the flag civilian style) the alarm misses me. Anything there ring a bell?
ReplyDeleteGood to know that your pacemaker takes a licking, and you keep on kicking!
ReplyDeleteLove that song! Too bad things have gone to heck since then...
ReplyDeleteI'm on my 4th year now and my Doc said I have about 5 years left. Wish my car battery would last that long! :")
ReplyDeleteGeo, I've been told to avoid the automatic screeners and ask for a wand. As for the stores, they've told me to just hurry through the doors. I haven't had any alarms sound, that I know of.
ReplyDeletethanks indeed!
ReplyDeleteImagine saying to someone in the summer of 2008, 'and after two terms of a sane president like Obama, the country's going to go off the rails and elect Trump. Yeah, that failed casino owner turned reality show nutcase. No, I have not been drinking.'
ReplyDeleteCertainly remember John Cameron Swayze. If I'm not mistaken he was also the anchor of the Camel News Caravan.
ReplyDeleteGeo...sure. Depending on which side of the sensor is located, the added bulk of what I'm sure are well-developed biceps effectively adds to the bulk the signal has to travel through.....muscle, fat, bone, etc. It's enough to block the signal. I'm guessing like most geezers, you salute with right hand, and the signal sensor is also on the right. Or maybe vice versa.
ReplyDeleteI just saw my 'team' for cardio when I was at Swedish/UW, all I've known, a few of them think of me as a mentor, poor souls. Anyway, we decided surgery was not the option, different meds, some of which I'm reluctant to start, side effects and all.
Yes, thank goodness for the pacemaker! I haven't heard the name John Cameron Swayze in ages, although I see on Wikipedia that he died in Sarasota when I was living there, and I'm sure it must have made the newspaper. Did you know he was a distant relative of Patrick Swayze? Trivia!
