I'm about a month from my 85th trip around the Sun.
It seems like only yesterday.
No I don't mean my big birthday seemed only yesterday.
Because it wasn't, see?
It's still coming up.
But I am of the age where I go into a room and then wonder why I'm in there.
Or not remembering the name of the person I've known all of my life.
Or the very famous movie star that I was in love with for all of my life.
Ah, well, that's a little of what's got me thinking.
Other than the fact that I'm wearing my wife's hat.
Some days are just like that.
But today was a killer.
I mean a real killer-diller.
(Does anyone remember that?)
Anyway I went to the library and the grocery store and the town center to shoot some pictures and the park to shoot some more.
And sometime after I got back, I glanced down at my feet.
I had not known it until that fateful moment.
Though I had noticed that people were being very polite to me in the library and the grocery store and the park.
I showed them to my wife when I discovered them.
After laughing uproarishly at my distress, she crowned my day by saying "And you've got another pair just like them in your closet!"

I hope you were able to laugh at yourself :-)
Don't worry too much. I do things like that and I'm only 68!!!
"But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear
purple.

Been there, recently done that myself. It's a rite of passage, LOL. And who is the famous movie star of whom you speak?
Ha-ha Granddaddy!
You are blessed to have reached the age of 85 and to generally sound so sane - with your wits about you. We will overlook the little matter of the shoes - in itself that is not evidence of dementia!
A small thing in the grand scheme of things. Agree with Yorkshire Pudding above. At least you have all your marbles!
I'm constantly doing that. If I forget, SWMBO does it!
It's scary I imagine, but blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
We all worry about dementia these days. I know I do and I'm 23 years younger than you. So many things are a normal part of aging. For me, it's looking at words and wondering if they are spelled correctly.
Everyone does. ( . . . uh, don't they? 😯 )
That poem is a favorite of my wife AND her daughter!
I can't remember her name but I think she was a redhead. Or a blond. Or ????? 😉
Oh, so glad to hear!
Well, some of them, anyway.
Congratulations on your upcoming milestone Birthday! Don’t worry about little stuff, my house is full of post it notes to “remind” me of all kinds of things. Thanks for the tip that I should put some on my shoes too.
We gotta laugh! It makes life easier. That's a great story and I love your wife's response! :)
Oh, I do that with words too. Fortunately there's Google!
I guess I should use some of the post it note paper we have but I can never remember where I put it! 😊
It's an old line but like the expression says: an oldie but a goodie.
😊👍👏
😔
Were the shoes comfortable? That would be my main concern. Anything that will get people to be polite is worth it.
They must have been since I didn't notice them until I got home.
Made me laugh out loud! Because I have done that, twice, and I was less than half your age at the time. In my defense, I tend to buy the same style of shoe in different colors, and at 6:30am it is hard to tell navy or brown from black.
Hope you post some of your photos from you odd-shoe walkabout!
Photos are upcoming in the days ahead. (if I remember. 😋
Heh, heh! At least you didn't wear the hat out and about. Or DID you? One of my co-workers at the unemployment office wore her shoes like that one day. At least her feet were under a desk. She was a job counselor. Her "clients" might have wondered about taking her advice. Oh, and she was only in her 40s.
Of course I didn't wear the hat out and about. My wife wouldn't let me.
Now that would be a shock to the system. We seem to be thinking of something else and lose our concentration.
I think that's exactly what happened.
tc/Light/Breezes Great post! Love that photo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The one of my feet??? Maybe I've started a fashion trend. 😏
As they say, life is too short to match socks. You have just carried it one step further. It is a new trend.
Oh thank you! Tell your friends! (and your enemies.)
Oh dear oh dear oh dear! You'll probably spend the next week checking your shoes before leaving the house and then you'll forget to check and when people are extra polite you might remember again.
One of the benefits of old age is the right to little eccentricities. You can get away with a great deal, so enjoy the moment, I say!
I am going to be extra careful when dressing to go out!
Oh thank you! "Little eccentricities" - I like that.
Well that is certainly a new look... one we never expected to see. Now we're going to pay extra attention when we get ready to go out. Thank you for sharing that lesson. (NewRobin13)
Me too! 😉
Remember I was always your favorite assignment editor and the $500 bar tab from Dallas in 1984 that you owe me.
I never had a favorite assignment editor. Jim Sieger promised to pay the bar tab. Bill him, if you can find him. 😎😎😎
HA! That's hilarious! I love your wife's quip, too. She's a quick one. Thinks on her feet, you might say. :)
