In keeping with our tradition of dining deliciously but simply on New Year's Eve, SWMBO and I shared a simple salad . . .

fried oysters, sugar peas . . .

naan (Indian flatbread) . . . (not shown) . . . champagne . . .and the BRD's persimmon pudding and ice cream for dessert.

It was all scrumptious.  I think it was lights out before 11 but after watching the ball drop in New York City.

Today's first breakfast of the new year will center on SWMBO's caramel pecan cinnamon rolls, which were made yesterday.  Take a look . . . and eat your hearts out!

Later today, I'll roast some pork ribs and sweet potatoes.  And tomorrow, we shall endeavor to begin shedding some of the holiday pounds we've undoubtedly added.

  1. That looks scrumptious! If SWMBO would consider long-distance catering, I'm buying!

  2. I imaging all of this looks delicious, but I woke this morning with a terrible funk in my mouth that tastes like a baby dragon used my mouth as a potty trainer. Maybe it was the vile turducken, or too many martinis. Really, though, I think food is extremely difficult to photograph and you always to a superb job.
    Happy New Year!

  3. Scott, the M says catering to me is the most she can handle!

Stephen, if only you knew how many photos I take and reject and how I curse my cheap tripod and how much editing goes into the decent shots . . . and then SWMBO says "that one would have been better if you had just . . ."

    But thanks!

  4. Looks and sounds fabulous!

Bon appetit and happy New Year. Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we diet!

  5. I read somewhere everyone adds between 3 and 5 pounds during the Season...
    We are not exceptions...

  6. Persimmon pudding is one of my very favorite things - but those cinnamon rolls look pretty darn fabulous!

By the way - I checked out that link for the Christmas video your friend posted - wow!

  7. That all looks divine! Happy New Year.
Summer has arrived here, Jan 1, and now we will cook, but not in the kitchen!

  8. Those rolls look yummy as I sit here drinking coffee with no rolls to go with it. Where exactly is your place?

  9. As has become our tradition the past few New Years, we dined in and endeavored to stay up to welcome the new year. We didn't make it...and that's okay.

  10. Simply, you say?! Simply? Sumptiously and deliciously
I'd say. It all looked good, but those rolls are in a
    category of their own!!!!!!!!

  11. Lucy and Therese - I got on the scale this morning, then told SWMBO it looks like I lost a pound over the holidays. She threatened to kick my butt!

Dana - I had never had persimmon pudding before but SWMBO and the BRD, both from Indiana, were familiar with it. I am now a big fan of it.

Meggie - LOL! It's near 70 here in the daytime so we're not suffering either too cold or too hot.

Gee, Judy, I just saw your comment. Guess it's too late to invite you over now.

Jerry - Yes it is indeed okay!

Tom - Well, it's not like one of your feasts with friends but it was tasty. The rolls are delicious and rapidly disappearing.

  12. Damn, you made me hungry. Off to get something to eat.

  13. Any chance of sharing the pecan roll recipe?

  14. Sure. Send me your email address and I'll send you the recipe. My email is
