These are some of the stranger looking types. I had to ask SWMBO if they were pumpkins or gourds. But she said she was pretty sure they are pumpkins.
Right next to these was a display of what I knew to be pumpkins, just ready to be made into delicious pies and strange and hideous jack-o-lanterns.
Happy Halloween, everybody. (10 days early)
Does anything say "autumn" more than pumpkins?

Pumpkins are special. Low GI, easy to grow, store well, can be baked, fried boiled or steamed, but for me best dry cooked in the microwave. They are the face of the best scarecrows and candleholders at Halloween. At a pinch, they can be used as a missile and they float.
ReplyDeleteTake that Mr Potatohead!
My favorite part of Halloween is the smell of roasting pumpkin seeds--a time machine sending me back to when I was a kid. Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteThks for posting. I don't miss the pumpkins for their taste and fate but for their look and for what they mean...
ReplyDeleteThat time of the year. Lots of pumpkins and gourds being sold in Germany.
ReplyDeleteOK, some of those pumpkins are downright homely!
ReplyDeleteI keep planning to get a couple of pumpkins at the grocery store, but then I chicken out (ok ok - I'm too lazy to pick them up & put them in my cart!).
