CHOCOLATE & BLOODY

I told you yesterday about the mini "road trip" SWMBO and I took to the Verde Valley and our viewing the golden colors of the Cottonwoods along the river.

But, as you might expect of us, there were other pleasures experienced on this trip.

On our drive through Cottonwood (the town) we were surprised by this sign.

Now it happens that Judy has a daughter named Gayle, spelled that way, also known here as The BRD, for Beautiful Rich Daughter.

And she loves chocolate so I had to whip out my camera.

And visit the tiny shop.

Where I purchased four chocolate truffles.

They are Lemon, Raspberry, Champagne and, the shop-owner's favorite, Michigan Cherry.

In spite of good intentions, though, the BRD never saw these, as we greedily gobbled them up after we got home that evening.

Oh, and there was one other thing.

We stopped at The Tavern Grille in Old Town Cottonwood for a wonderful lunch preceded by one of these for SWMBO.

That is a spectacularly garnished Bloody Mary.

She said it was made to her taste - very spicey!

She topped it off with a BLTA sandwich and I had a Bleu Cheeseburger, both of which were excellent.

I heartily recommend The Tavern Grille.

And Gayle's Chocolates.

  1. What about "Ye Old Hippie Emporium"? it is at the end of Old Town.

  2. MICHIGAN Cherry truffle! Be still my heart! There is a wonderful shop (well more than one now dotting Michigan) that started in Glen Arbor, Michigan that salutes all things cherry, named The Cherry Republic. They ship all over the world. Wonderful website. We spent twice a year for almost 2 decades at The Homestead resort down the road on Lake Michigan.

  4. Obviously, you did't buy enough chocolates. You will need a bigger box when you return. I've been wanting to stay at a hotel in Cottonwood called The Tavern. I wonder if that is at the same place.

  5. Sharon, the Tavern Hotel is just behind the Tavern Grille and one couple owns both, as well as Nic's Italian Steak & Crab House, Bocce Pizzeria Patio Bar, and Crema Craft Kitchen + Bar, all in Old Town Cottonwood; and the Haunted Hamburger and Grapes Restaurant Bar in Jerome! Quite a success.

  6. I'm not a drinker, but that Bloody Mary looks ALMOST as good as the chocolates.

  7. Gosh, you could have save Gayle at least 1 of the truffles!
