A HARD FROST IS GONNA FALL

It had to happen, sooner or later.

The overnight temperature dropped suddenly into the mid 20's F.

The result - frozen plants.

The Serrano and Shishito Pepper plants - history.

And the tomato plant, the same in spite of being wrapped with a flannel sheet.

The master gardener harvested what she could and we'll see what happens.

Actually we used a green tomato or two as a substitute for a tomatillo in an avocado salsa we brewed up in the blender and it was pretty darned good.

And there were some survivors - the hardy Marigolds planted to protect the tomatoes from insects.

And our basil plant seems to have mostly survived the frigid night.

And so to bed, waiting for Spring and new growth.

  1. Wasn't it just yesterday that every day topped 100 degrees? Hoping to still have some days to sit outside! The rock rose in a hanging pot outside my window bit the dust last night.

  3. Wow, we haven't even had a frost here in Toronto yet but I think it may come on Sunday night.

  4. We've been hovering just around freezing frosty night temps here, but no hard freeze yet. I think you might have some success with those tomatoes ripening in a warm sunlit spot.

  5. THe poor tomatoes, such a short life. THe green ones will r9ipen faster if in a paper bag...so I'm told, not sure I can tell the difference but I do it anyway.

  6. It's hard to say goodbye to those plants, especially the tomatoes. (nothing better than homegrown tomatoes) I'd never heard of using the green ones in salsa--yum. I didn't grow tomatoes this year because I was gone for most of July. However, I'm pretty sure that my coleus is now toast after our recent cold nights.

  7. You know, the Amish here wrap their green tomatoes in newspaper, and then tuck them in a single layer in a box and slide them under the bed in a cold bedroom (you don't want them to freeze, and amish homes typically don't have any more heat upstairs than what rises from downstairs) Anyways, you're supposed to be able to fetch these tomatoes downstairs a couple at a time and let them ripen on a window sill. In this way you're supposed to have fresh tomatoes until into January.

  8. As you said -- inevitable! May as well be now, I suppose. Glad you were able to salvage some of your crop. We haven't had a freeze yet but it's only a matter of time.

Has anyone here heard about blank ATM card? An ATM card that allows you to withdraw cash from any Atm machine in the world. No name required, no address required and no bank account required. The Atm card is already programmed to dispense cash from any Atm machine worldwide. I heard about this Atm card online but at first i didn't pay attention to it because everything seems too good to be true, but i was convinced & shocked when my friend at my place of work got the card from guarantee Atm card vendor. We both went to the ATM machine center and confirmed it really works, without delay i gave it a go. Ever since then I’ve been withdrawing $1,500 to $5000 daily from the blank ATM card & this card has really changed my life financially. I just bought an expensive car and am planning to get a house.
