THE THING ABOUT SPRING . .

Yesterday was one of those days, as I told SWMBO, that makes me say my least favorite season of the year is Spring.

She knew what I meant.

I had gone out to the backyard to get the trash can and take it to the dumpster in front, prior to putting the latter out by the street for emptying by the trashmen.

While I was doing that I perceived (for the umpteenth time) that there was a plethora of weeds along the path so I got a weeding stick and went to work on them.

I was feeling pretty good about the progress I was making when I heard a truck stop out front.

I knew what it was.

It was FedEx.

So I hurried to the front and found a tightly rolled 8 by 10 foot astroturf carpet by the front door.

I picked it up (sort of) and dragged and carried it around to the back yard.

(Need I remind you that I am an octogenarian?)

Well I got it to the back patio which awaited it and SWMBO came out and we got it unwrapped and spread out on the patio.

It's an improvement over the carpeting we had there for a number of years that had slowly begun to rot away.

And it looks better than the bare concrete.

Almost looks like grass, doesn't it?

So after getting that job done I dragged the hose over and filled the bird bath and gave the honeysuckle vine a brief spritz, then dragged the hose back and coiled it up again.

And took the garbage can, now full again with wrappings from the carpet, out to the dumpster again.

And then came in and collapsed on my bed for awhile.

But not too long as I had volunteered to make pizza for our comida (Spanish for dinner).

So that was my day.

Now do you see why Spring is my least favorite season of the year?

(Need I remind you once again that I am an octogenarian?)

  1. That DOES seem like a fair amount of work -- but your faux grass looks great!

  2. That is certainly a full days work but the "grass" does look very nice.

  3. If you can do all that, you are a Super Octogenarian! I am impressed. I need to get to the weeding, ugh. It's sure to tweak my back.

    1. Now that makes me wonder just exactly what you're talking about. 🙄

  6. "In spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love..."wrote Tennyson.
So as an "octogenarian" the operative advice here is "lightly turns." I admire your industry, and indeed the carpet looks swell, but don't over do it. Spring training season is on...the full season comes after that.

  7. Hey, slow down old timer! Living as energetically as that is sure to bring about some kind of crisis. As Jackson Browne sang, "Take it Easy"! No need to live your life in the fast lane now that you are an octogenarian.

    1. I have to step it up, Mr. Pudding. I've only got so much time left!

  8. I've got a similar, smaller piece of fake grass in my closed in back porch. Lola loves to sharpen her claws on it. I got mine at the $2 store, where NOTHING is actually $2 anymore.

  9. We did the "fake grass" on our patio too. 2 years old looks great.
