We here at the Taylor Family Kitchen have discovered a new taste sensation.
To begin, I made a loaf of whole wheat bread yesterday.
Actually, the Bread Machine made it.
I just poured the ingredients into it and turned it on.
Just under four hours later, Presto!
A loaf of bread.
Let me allay your fears.
Those dark spots you see are neither dirt nor jungle rot.
They're dried cranberries scattered on and through the loaf.
The bread is soft and tasty just by itself but let me get to the taste sensation I mentioned above.
Last week when I played with doctored our frozen pizza before baking it in the oven, Judy (SWMBO) said, "How about I slice and saute some of those mushrooms we have and you can put them on your pie?"
I thought it was a great idea and so we did and we enjoyed it.
Yesterday since we still had some left when once again I was messing with putting a few improvements on our (name brand) pizza from the store before baking it, she repeated the previous week's assistance.
But then, before baking the pizza and while resting from the extremely exhausting work I had done so far, she brought me a teensy appetizer.
Can you guess what it was?
Sorry, I don't have a photo but it was a slice of that bread sandwiched around a few of those warm slices of freshly sauteed mushrooms!
Let me tell you, folks, that was amazing!
So there you go, Gentle Readers - another culinary hit from us to you.
Note:
For those poor souls among you who don't like mushrooms, there's always peanut butter and jelly.
The aroma of freshly baked bread is so comforting and heavenly!
ReplyDeleteI used to have the bread machine in the garage but my wife made me bring it in when I use it so she can smell the bread baking.
Deletetc-Light/Breezes. You guys have discovered an alternative to avocado toast, which is such a rage here on the coast.
ReplyDeleteI've tried it. It's . . . . . okay.
DeleteI'm all about avocado on toast. Almond butter on toast. It's toast!
ReplyDeleteOkay.
DeleteMmmmmm, I can smell that bread from here. I miss my bread machine.
ReplyDeleteYour mushwich sounds tasty indeed!
It was and I love my break machine.
DeleteGood for you both!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI like mushrooms, but not sure I would try a mushroom sandwich. We have a "Breadman" bread machine. When the boys still lived here, they and Hick would save the crust for me. That's my favorite part of the bread.
ReplyDeleteThat's Judy's favorite too. Try the sandwich with warm bread and warm mushrooms.
DeleteThere's nothing like fresh bread.
ReplyDeleteAnd sauteed mushrooms!
DeleteI love mushrooms and also peanut butter and jelly! I didn't realize that bread machines made it so easy. Even I could do it!
ReplyDeleteYes you can!
DeleteI do love mushrooms. What type were they?
ReplyDeleteThat bread looks good as well. What made you decide to throw cranberries in? I've got a bag of cranberries in my freezer this very minute and you've given me a good idea...
I think they were Baby Bellas (Creminis). We've been making that bread for years with (dried) cranberries, chopped and coated in flour to keep them from clumping together. I think it was Judy's idea.
DeleteI knew the dark spots were fruit but thought raisins. I also add sliced mushrooms to frozen pizza before baking, but I don't saute them, just scatter them raw along with a few other things like garlic and pineapple. The bread looks great!
ReplyDeleteI add dried oregano and Italian spices and a dash of red pepper flakes, sometimes more mozzarella, sometimes some Parmesan. Just depends on my mood. Have never tried pineapple but it sounds good.
DeleteBaking bread is great therapy
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your bread -- looks good. When we lived in Phoenix I got into bread making from scratch, no machine, sour dough, too --- was great outcome. We were eating too much of it so didn't continue doing when we came to Calif.
ReplyDelete"Oddball Recipes" would surely be a big hit with booksellers. People are often looking for unusual things to eat.
