CHARM-ING

In hot and dry Arizona there is nothing like some fresh drinking water to draw a crowd.

In this case some thirsty house finches.

Upon researching this group I learned that a bunch of finches are known as a "charm".

This charming group stayed only long enough for me to snap one photo.

Then they flew off en masse.

They are all females, hence the rather dull coloring which can cause one to mis-identify them as house sparrows.

  1. Very charming! I will remember that word!

  2. I guess the third finch is a charm? Because two would only be a pair, but three or more can be considered a bunch or a group.

  3. The girls are having an afternoon out and stopped to have drink. Girls do that. Dropped in at Taylor's Tap for a cool one.

  4. I hope they beat up the males for making it so hot! Always the males fault!

  5. I didn’t know any of that, thank you. I have charms of finches here, some with a bit of red or yellow. They love the sunflowers.
