But several states and more and more cities are celebrating the second Monday in October as Indigenous People's Day, honoring the first people to discover what became America.
Whatever your feelings are I hope you won't give up the excellent food and wine the Italians have taught us to enjoy.
Is that breakfast at Restaurant Judy?
ReplyDeleteThat son-of-a-bitch Columbus seized homes of Indians who had 20,000 years of rent receipts.
ReplyDeleteLet's just name it "Pizza Day"
ReplyDeleteMrs. C is half Italian, half Irish. Unfortunately she is Irish in the kitchen. On the other hand she is Italian where it really counts.
I never really thought about Columbus Day, until I took a job in state government, and found out it was a paid holiday.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with Phil's comment. The Indians should have sunk all 3 boats before they touched shore.
ReplyDeleteColumbus represented the idea of European Court Society that they could and should claim land for their own interests despite the fact the land was occupied and belonged to the indigenous people. I enjoy Italian influence on dining and culture but prefer to think of this as indigenous peoples day.
ReplyDeleteA interesting read regarding Columbus is Orson Scott Card's "Pastwatch: The Redemption of Christopher Columbus"....it's a 'alternative history' novel, dealing with what L. Lewis' suggests above. What happens if he is forced to deal with the indigenous people as equals rather than make them slaves.
ReplyDeleteWho could pass up Italian cuisine?
ReplyDeleteI love all the things you share and see your beautiful creation. Thank you for sharing with everyone.
