EARTH DAY 2023

Let's save it from us, for the others.

  1. Indeed. Looking back, I, like many of our generation took part in the first earth day activities in 1970. We took a sledge hammer to a old cadillac on campus, listened to a speaker or two.
Afterwards, we drove in our cars to a pub, quaffed beer outside in plastic glasses, and talked about where we were going for the summer. It was kind of a lark for many, to be honest.
Today, with the climate changing in ways we couldn't imagine possible in 1970, and our kids looking at us as people who let this happen, it takes on a serious thing.
We should belatedly do what we can, and hope our kids and grands do better.

  3. Yes, for the others. I would like to think that we're not selfish and greedy enough to destroy our planet. However...the jury is out on that.

  4. We planted a tree. Check out Greta Thunberg on Youtube. Our 3 year old grandson made a world globe with googly eyes in his art class for Earth Day. They are starting them young!

  5. I love that picture. Fingers crossed about global warming. I'm afraid I think the major problem is too many people, and that's a hard one to deal with.

  6. In response to Margaret, I fear the jury isn't still out on that. I am constantly frustrated at the politicians talk about the grand plans they will put into operation to save the planet, only to find that their policies run counter to their fine talk.

Having said that, I agree with every other thought expressed here. I just hope that the possibility that the jury might change its mind is still an option. Here's to you, Margaret and to you all.

  7. Is there a specified time for people to turn off all ligts and appliances for an hour? I don't remember anymore. But I don't turn on the laptop until 3pm usually and the TV at 6pm for the news, then it stays on until I go to bed, but I barely use power each morning, every day, so I feel I've done my bit. If I had property, I'd plant a tree.

  8. Around their houses, some people would insist on turning unused lights off just to save money. Nowadays, we should all be turning unused lights off to conserve fossil fuels - doing it for the planet more than for our pockets.
