GOODBYE, JUNE

 Can you believe it?

July is here.

It seems like just a few days ago that we were welcoming June and now she's gone for another year.

Oh well, July is really the image of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

Swimming, boating, barbecues, watermelon, ice cream and here in the foothills of Arizona even some rain.

It rained during the night but I missed (slept through) it.

All I know is that there was a puddle in my driveway this morning.

We may get some isolated thunderstorms in the next couple of days, if the Weather Gods are to be believed.

Traditionally, locals say the Monsoon Season begins here on the Fourth of July but it arrived a bit early this year.

Speaking of the Fourth of July, Prescott Valley celebrates with Red, White and Boom!

It's a 6 hour festival of music, food and, inevitably, a grand finale.

Once again fireworks will light up the sky.

Our neighboring town of Prescott has their traditional cowboy event which they call the World's Oldest Rodeo, even though several other towns argue about that title.

But about fireworks.

Some basically ground-based items are legal in Arizona.

Not legal are rockets or Roman candles.

You can be arrested for violating the laws.

So leave the aerial displays to the professionals.

They do a much better job.

Anyway, Happy 4th of July and have a happy whole month of July.

Remember, it only comes once a year.

  1. I actually talked to someone about that at the Zane Gray museum. Prescott is the OLDEST but Payson it is the OLDEST CONSECUTIVE rodeo in the state. He said Prescott must have taken some time off.

  2. Happy July! The last two months of June used to be the worst part of summer here, then the monsoons would start about July 4th. This year and last the rains came early which was a nice relief. The monsoons aren't what they used to be, of course, since the drought started. Anyway, enjoy!

  3. I usually dread July with its heat and humidity, but this year it will have to work hard to beat June.
Our county seat has what is billed as America's Largest 4th of July Celebration. Not sure the title is still legit. This year they are having a mullet contest. A mullet contest! What the heck. We will give that a miss for sure. They do great fireworks though

  4. thecontemplativecat here. Prescott is a great city. We are in Calif. and temperatures are about 97. We lived in the Mojave desert and the temp. was obscene.

  5. With the coming of July it also means that 2024 is half over. Have a great July 4th.

  6. Our rules are supposedly strict but people don't follow them and nothing appears to happen. We live so close to tribal land. (actually on it, probably) July is looking to be warmer (80-90s) but that too shall pass. Happy 4th! By the way, I love your header.

  7. Love the new header picture and that rocket display. Do the professionals put on a display so people can go and watch?

  8. It will sound like a ground war for an hour or two here on Thuesday.
