Smack that fish!
That Walleyed Pike was as big as I was.
My dad is showing off his prize catch from a fishing trip, probably to Carlyle Lake in Saskatchewan.
It was about 100 miles north of where we lived in North Dakota and was a favorite vacation spot during my childhood.
Pretty good fishing, too.
That fish is as big as you were! What a great photo.
ReplyDeleteBTW I had a great Walleyed Pike dinner Tuesday night at Tinker's in Indianapolis-Peter George's new spot.
Walleye is a benefit of the midwest. I don't think I've seen it on any California menu.
I haven't had Walleye since I was a kid.
DeleteI love that photo - you were so cute :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean - "were"???!!!
DeleteNice catch. I've caught a few here in Germany, but not so big. They call them Zander.
ReplyDeleteI think we also used to call the big ones Lunkers.
DeleteI was happily unaware that walleye can be found in Missouri many years ago when I was fishing a big pond for perch and largemouth bass. I had tossed in my worm, and was letting it sink when something took it straight to the bottom. I thought I had a bass, but when movement stopped, I figured my bass had gotten off the hook. Imagine my surprise when I reeled in my line and saw a walleye at the end.
ReplyDeleteI was also happily unaware that walleye have teeth. I though I caught a monster. I am not such a great fisherwoman. I almost dropped a catfish back into the water when I grabbed it with a shop towel to get it off my hook, AND IT CROAKED!
Walleye won't croak, they'll chew your arm off. :)
DeleteThat's an impressive fish.
ReplyDeleteMy dad and his friends used to bring home lots of them.
DeleteThe kind of souvenirs to cherish.
