The BRD lives in nearby Prescott, about 12 miles from us.
She also has three cats living with her and they are quite observant.
They like to lie near one of the windows gazing out on the outer world and spotting birds and squirrels.
But this past week a different creature was spotted by one of them.
It was The Trickster!
Trickster is a name given by many Native American tribes to the coyote.
In their mythology he may have at one time been a human, or humans may become coyotes when they die.
He can represent either good or evil or both.
He is known for being a sly creature normally not seen in daylight.
But here was one calmly walking through a populated neighborhood in the middle of a city in BROAD DAYLIGHT!
Trickster, indeed.
You know that cat is another name for coyote lunch. Good thing hers are behind glass. I just saw a documentary about pronghorn. They can easily outrun a coyote. However, 75% of the pronghorn newborns are eaten by coyotes each season due to our ever vanishing tall grass prairies. I love them both!
ReplyDeleteI've seen coyotes in downtown Seattle on a Sunday morning around sunrise. Butte doesn't have many, the wolves eat them.
ReplyDeleteWe have coyotes around here and they do like to munch on cats. That's why my Mari, who used to be indoor/outdoor when she was my daughter's cat, is now strictly indoor. She hates it!
ReplyDeleteI still remember the baby coyote we saw when driving around the mountains. So cute!
ReplyDeleteIt's always such a nice surprise to see a coyote walking by. We see them here sometimes... foxes too.
ReplyDeleteThey are roaming around even in our large city during daylight hours.
ReplyDeleteThat would keep the attention of the cats.
ReplyDeleteSome of our coyotes are relaxed around people too.
ReplyDelete---Cheerful Monk
Just calmly walking down the street like he lived there.
ReplyDeleteYou can see why they chose them for the Roadrunner cartoons....While E Coyote indeed!
ReplyDeleteI had to look back through your blog to discover what the letters BRD stand for... Beautiful Rich Daughter. It's great that she lives so close by. I wonder what her real names is. If my surname was Taylor, I would have called her either Elizabeth or Tinker.
ReplyDeleteActually she's my step-daughter so her surname isn't Taylor.
DeleteYikes!
