One wonders. There's always been, in recent years, a anti-monarchical movement, as seen at the current coronation. I'd guess there would have to be another coronation in at least a decade or so. It'll be interesting for our kids and grands to see the transition to and when England goes to a republic.
Not a fan of the monarchy....I think Charles is an interesting figure but the idea of royal bloodlines and divine rights of land and rule is malarky. The only reason one human should bow to another is because they choose to do so as an expression of admiration or love. Any other protocol that insists on it is stupid and anti human. tc in cambria
He got the job when his mum died....ok, but why waste all that cash? Making it into a show is a relatively recent thing.....to try and make the monarchy popular with the masses.....
The monarchy just bores me to ......... It isn't that I am anti-monarchy, or pro-republic. It just is of no interest to me. And swearing allegiance to the monarch, his heirs and successors? They surely jest!
Further to my earlier comment, and excuse me for using your blog for my own news, we celebrated something far, far more important than a mere coronation. It was our wedding anniversary on May 6.
It's a ceremonial position, but has its benefits. Especially when you look to your side of the border and four uears of a guy who wanted to be God emperor.

ReplyDeleteNot sure you can understand the concept of monarchy unless you live under it.
ReplyDeleteI would much rather have King Charles III than King Donald I.
ReplyDeleteOn that we are in complete agreement!
DeleteDitto! Please let him not run again!

ReplyDeleteI like the pomp and circumstance without having much of an opinion of the monarchy one way or another. Not my country anyway!

ReplyDeleteHappy belated anniversary! I hope it was a splendid day!
DeleteIt was a wonderful day, thanks Bruce. And we have found a lovely new (to us) restaurant in Dinan.
DeleteBravo!
DeleteI'll let the English worry about the monarchy. I'm more concerned about democracy, to be honest.
ReplyDeleteOh my, 1940s play list I listen to on my antique radios, there will always be an England...

ReplyDeleteWe've discovered that the fairy tale has slipped away.
