AN OLD FAVORITE

SWMBO and I had business in Prescott today and afterwards we went to brunch at our favorite restaurant.

I can't go into this place without having at least one of something the BRD introduced us to many years ago.

Their legendary Bloody Mary.

It's the best I've ever had anywhere.

Today I had a cup of gumbo that I'd never tried before our friend Tom introduced us to it last May when he and Lana were visiting us.

With andouille sausage and chicken and okra and other things, it was as good today as it was back then.

Judy had Allen's Favorite - poached eggs on English muffins with Canadian bacon topped with Hollandaise sauce and crumbled crisp bacon and green onions.

I then followed my gumbo with a particular favorite that is always listed as a special - Blackened Catfish with a remoulade sauce.

(Sorry about the fuzzy picture - it may have been that drink I had.)

It was delicious, as always, and after our meal I was chatting with the owner and she said she goes through about 30 pounds of catfish a week.

Incidentally another gentlemen was talking with her when I barged in.

He said he'd been driving by the cafe almost every day for 29 years and hadn't stopped in until today.

He said he expected a country-style restaurant and was planning on ordering biscuits and gravy until he saw the gourmet menu.

Instead he had Crab Cakes Benedict and absolutely loved them.

Finally we both went on our way but not before assuring the boss lady that we'd be back.

The sun is coming up.

It looks like another beautiful weekend in Arizona.

THE FRIDAY FUNNIES

Hey, Gentle Readers, sit back and relax in a comfortable chair.

This is going to be a long one.

I would guess all Internet browsers have become used to this changing sign in front of a business.

Well, there's a new challenger on the scene.

It's the Indian Hills Community Center, up around Evergreen, Colorado.

And whoever changes the sign has a wild and wacky sense of humor.

And finally, if you're still with me, this one is my personal favorite.

That's it, folks.

I know you're tired so I'll spare you the alliteration this week.

Just have a great weekend and always remember to keep laughing.

Here, kitty-kitty . . .

(oh, wow, one catscan coming up!)

VISITING A CAT HOUSE

Oh, it's not what you think, you nasty people.

It's the BRD's home and its furry occupants.

WET

A friend in North Carolina reminded me today that Hurricane Florence was bearing down on the East Coast.

I replied to him that this, or any time, is a good time to live in Arizona.

PATRIOT WEEK

It seems to me that every week should be Patriot Week.

But be that as it may this week is officially Patriot Week in Prescott Valley.

It started in 2012 when 1,200 flags flew on the green at the Civic Center grounds.

Since then it's been expanded and now some 3,000 flags are there for the victims of 9-11.

Each flagpole represents a victim and has a tag with the name and some information about him or her.

Those with boots represent a policeman or firefighter who died on September 11th, 2001.

The organizers call it the Healing Fields and the local firefighters and civilian volunteers who put up the flags are usually around to answer questions from the curious.

Tonight there will be a youth concert at the Green.

Wednesday evening the reknowned trumpeter Jesse McGuire will headline a concert at the same place.

The flags will stay  in place through next Friday.

As you walk through the field of flags and read some of the cards attached to the poles the solemnity should reach you.

Give it a visit if you're in our area.

THE FRIDAY FUNNIES

Gentle Readers, I am tired.

This has been such a wild and zany week.

I'm sorta glad it's coming to a close.

It is, isn't it?

All right, if Jake says it, then I can believe it.

Fasten your seat belt as I get us to launch speed.

See, it's the way the circles intersect.

Oh, drat, maybe I shouldn't get too complicated here.

I can hear the laughter rollicking around the world on this "lurch" into the weekend.

Now don't lollygag, my lovelies.

Liquefy yourself with liquors or other libations, eat langoustines and lingonberries, do not indulge in lacrimations but remember that liberal LAUGHTER is your aim.

Enjoy yourselves and have a great weekend.

Here, kitty-kitty . . .

(hmmm, again???)
