CAESAR & THE IDES

It's a miserable, dark, rainy, cold day here on this middle of March.

And on this 15th of March, known as the Ides of March, one can't help but think of a man who legendarily lost his life on this day.

Julius Caesar was never an emperor but he was named the sole dictator of Rome in 46 B.C.E.

He only held the title for two years until his assassination on this day in 44 B.C.E.

He had a meeting with the Senators scheduled on that day and he went in spite of the pleas of his wife because of a prophecy by a seer, who claimed he would not live past the Ides.

In the end the prophecy came true as Caesar was stabbed 23 times by many of the Senators.

Later two of the assassins, Cassius and Brutus both committed suicide.

And to this day, thanks to William Shakespeare, we still have the expression, "Beware the Ides of March".

IT'S PIE DAY . . er, PI DAY

Today is International Pi Day - March 14th or 3.14.

Those are the first two digits of the mathematical constant of Pi, which is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, regardless of the size of the circle.

If that has you confused, just celebrate yet another holiday with a big piece of pie!

ART & LUNCH ROAD TRIP

Last Thursday was a very big day for we Seniors.

We did a road trip to Scottsdale, 85 miles down the road.

It seemed like years since we'd been out of the house and, with the exception of trips to doctors, grocery stores and the nearby pond to view the ducks, I think it had been years.

At any rate, we traveled to see the Celebration of Fine Art show.

It's a huge tent show that runs for two months with artists on hand to show their work and chat with lookie-lews and (potential) buyers.

The art is awesome.

This picture of two of the patrons is a bit out of focus.

It shows the BRD and SWMBO taking a break and is fuzzy because of my love for French Impressionism.

(At least that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it.)

Speaking of fuzzy, we repaired from the art show to a nearby restaurant for lunch.

Well, all that walking does make one thirsty, you know, and we only had one beer each.

It was a very good day.

THE FRIDAY FUNNIES

 Well, hello there.

Have you missed me?

I've had a busy week which included a trip yesterday to Scottsdale.

More about that tomorrow, maybe.

I was made aware that a long ago friend, a guy I've known for over 60 years, is still with us on this planet although he recently became a nonagenarian

(That's somebody in their 90's and it means I now have at least two friends who've reached that age.)

My friend, let's call him Sam, says it's not bad once he learned how to spell it.

And he said, after I informed him of this highly valuable blog, that he enjoyed the funnies.

So let's not keep him, and y'all, waiting any longer.

So you joyful, jocular, jesting, jolly, justifiably judged juggernauts of juvenescence, the weekend is now up to you.

Treat it well and . . . always remember to keep laughing!

Here, kitty-kitty . . .

( . . . uh, oh . . .)

AN IMPROVEMENT?

Jolly Jean sent this today and I couldn't resist sharing it with you.

Regarding the post title, which was her caption, I responded with an emphatic "YES"!

How about you?

THE FRIDAY FUNNIES

 We made it.

We got through that snowstorm alive.

It was a struggle.

I saw one place on the web that said the courthouse in downtown Prescott got 16 inches of snow!

I guess we were lucky where I live then.

Supposedly only 5 inches fell here.

But yesterday, the same day that we woke to all that snow, it was sunny and in the upper 30's and much of it melted away.

So it's Friday and time for some Funnies.

And in keeping with the weather this week let's start with this one.

All right.  Consider yourselves amused.

Now the rest is up to you, i.e. have yourselves a simply grand weekend.

And always remember to keep laughing!

Here, kitty-kitty . . .

( . . oh, he's occupied with that mouse again . . )

MARCH

For once the Weather Gods were correct.

Remember the old expression, March comes in like a lion, goes out like a lamb.

This is how my ARIZONA neighborhood looks this morning, on the second day of March.

That last shot shows the tracks of a "poor kitty" looking for someplace warm and dry.

I can't wait for the end of March and a departure "like a lamb".

WHAT A DAY!

Oh, my, I remember it well.

Well, maybe not so well.

Back in the day, I used to consume a moderate(ly large) amount of a weird coffee liqueur known as Kahlua.

It was sweet.

It was tasty.

It was good.

It was good over ice cream.

It was good mixed with cream in a cup.

It was just damned good.

And guess what I found out.

Today is National Kahlua Day!

Really!

You could do it like Jeff Bridges in the movie "The Big Lebowski" and make a simple White Russian.

Or you could make . . . a . . .

Oh hell, I'm going to the bar.

THE FRIDAY FUNNIES

Well, I guess winter isn't through with us yet.

We've got snow out there again.

But I'm refraining.

No more post titles like "It's S'no Fun" or "Drifting Along" or "Celestial Dandruff" or "Bank Up Your Problems".

Nope.

No more punny post titles like that for me, ever again.

Instead, I'm giving you some truly intellectual memes and cartoons and jokes and humor today.

So, let's get started.

And remember, no puns anymore.

So there you go.

No puns, right?

Whaaaaatttt?

Okay, so I lied.

Maybe I'll run for Congress.

Oh, no, I also promised awhile back that I wouldn't do any politics either.

Well, what can I say except that I wish you and yours an extravagantly wonderful weekend.

And always remember to keep laughing!

Now for the cat who NEVER commits "pun-itry".

Here, kitty-kitty . . .

(. . . oh no . . .)
